Writ Large Projects started 15 years ago in Los Angeles as a micro-publisher called Writ Large Press, established in 2007 to publish emerging Los Angeles authors. In the years since, working with zero to minimal funds, Writ Large Press was able to produce groundbreaking work that has been covered by newspapers, magazines and, most importantly, transmitted through word-of-mouth far and wide within and across communities, beyond books, and beyond Los Angeles’s city boundaries.
Our work, ethos and reputation have led to invitations to colleges, conferences, businesses and municipalities to give talks, present authors and to create community-centered programming.
We have also produced and presented hundreds of events, some of them historic, ranging from summer festivals to one-to-one readings. Here are a handful of them that have left a mark in Los Angeles and beyond:
• #90X90LA
• Grand Park Downtown BookFest
• Drunken Masters Series
• PUBLISH!
Writ Large Projects more accurately reflects our approach to publishing: It is so much more than making and selling books. It is all the things we have done and done successfully, whether it’s publishing books or producing events, fighting for our neighborhoods or promoting local businesses, celebrating established writers or uplifting teen artists.
And it doesn’t stop there.
Writ Large Projects will be made up of these programs dedicated to amplifying stories, developing writers & furthering literary and community legacies:
• Writ Large Press: The indie publisher you know & love continues with unique and stunning books.
• Writ Large Books & Collaborative: Our first brick & mortar bookstore, performance space, recording studio & coffee shop based in Braddock, PA, with plans to open more across the country.
• Writ Large Labs: Research & develop new publishing & community building technologies.
• Writ Large Studios: Develop & produce projects for radio, podcast & television.
• Writ Large Events: Collaborate with partners & clients to produce literary & cultural events.
